Description:NLRP3 activator, antibiotic
Nigericin is an antibiotic derived from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Nigericin is also mobile in its protonated noncomplexed form, with the result that the ionophore can catalyse the overall electroneutral exchange of K+ for H+. It induces the release of IL-1β in response to the activation of the NLRP3 (also known as NALP3 or cryopyrin) inflammasome.
