Uridine -5 '-monophosphate is a pyrimidine mononucleotide. It is formed by hemaglycoside -5' -monophosphate through decarboxylation reaction. The UMP can be further converted to UTP (uridine 5' -triphosphate) using kinases. Uridin-5 '-disodium monophosphate has been used to study the effects of 5-azacytidine, a pyrimidine synthesis inhibitor, on cholesterol and lipid metabolism. It has been used to study the effects of nucleotides on the growth of specific gut bacteria.
